How to organize a painting workshop at home
Regardless of how much time you dedicate to painting, it is recommended to have a dedicated space to this creative activity. A special space for painting, separate from the other areas of the house will help you to clearly delimit your activity from a mental point of view, so you will quickly enter a relaxed state, which will allow to express your creativity through painting. Here are my recommendations if you want to organize a small painting corner or a workshop :
It is ideal to have natural light during the time you spend painting. For this reason, you have to to place your desk or chevalet (easel) near the window. If the weather allows, the proximity of a window that can be opened has another benefit, namely the fact that you can keep the space well ventilated. In the case of certain colors or mediums used in painting, the smell can be quite strong and then it is recommended that your small studio be very well ventilated.
As a detail - it is good for the space to be ventilated from two sources, so that the air circulates as well as possible. If the time of day when you can work is in the evening, it is good to make sure you have a warm light source, but strong enough not to tire your eyes while painting.
It would be ideal to use an chevalet (easel), but it is important to have a table, for brushes and colors, a high chair, with backrest if possible. Every painter has a favorite way to organize his materials and tools. When you do not have a large space in which to unfold, the organization of colors and brushes is essential. Whether you have a shelf dedicated to materials, or you keep them in a box, you can definitely find solutions to keep the materials as well organized as possible, with faster access to the ones you use most often. The idea is to see the ones you want to use at a glance.
Have sections dedicated to each category of tools - colored tubes, brushes, absorbent paper, pencils and liners. I use a lot of silicone brushes, painting knives, and two to three color palettes. I also have paper towels and a clean cloth on hand to quickly clean some stains or touch-ups. In my painting workshop I have room flowers - yuka, chocolate, a few bottles of dry red wine and bourbon.
